Susan Feigenbaum

I am a ceramic artist and educator in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

My sculpture is shown in exhibitions, galleries, and year-round in the Northrup King Building in the NE Minneapolis Arts District. During my career in ceramics, I received four Minnesota State Arts Board Arts Learning Grants and brought clay learning experiences to older adults in senior communities. I was awarded a 2017 Jerome Project Grant for Ceramic Artists and created a new body of work exhibited at Northern Clay Center, Minneapolis. In 2019, I received a Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant and created sculpture for an exhibit at the Minnesota Landscape Arboretum, taught an intergenerational clay workshop at the Arboretum Learning Center, and presented artist talks about my work.

I am an alum of MN NICE, an advanced certificate program in ceramics offered at Northern Clay Center. My sculpture has been commissioned by individual collectors, the City of Eden Prairie, and has received numerous awards in local and international juried exhibitions.

My ongoing work explores relationships between abstract forms within narrative compositions.

I strive to evoke mystery and ambiguity using biomorphic forms that straddle the boundaries between the human, the animal, and the imagined. My intent is to connect the world of the subconscious with the world of our perceptions of everyday reality. I draw upon my archive of experience, memory, and the imagined to create sculpture that advances my nonrepresentational vision.

I invite viewers to enter these narratives and discover something within themselves—perhaps a feeling not often acknowledged, or an experience long forgotten. By suggesting a presence beyond our everyday world—and probing the private world within each of us—my work communicates a sense of innocence and unease.
