Naomi Hart

Naomi Hart grew up in the remote wilds of Northern Minnesota where the natural world became her education and her refuge. She divides her time between art studios in both Minnesota and Wisconsin where she combines an extensive arsenal of fine art techniques to what she calls “visual storytelling” in a unique Mixed Media Encaustic process.

In 2004, Hart received an MFA in Printmaking and BookArts from the Rochester Institute of Technology in Upstate NY. Following school, Hart taught extensively in classroom and workshop settings promoting non-toxic printmaking techniques. Hart's intaglio prints and sculptural work in book form have been exhibited internationally, winning a purchase award for permanent collection in the Indianapolis Art Center's Non-toxic Printmaking Collection.

Since 2011, Hart has focused her practice on a unique processes that she has developed which introduces her detailed etchings and drawing skills as a foundation to encaustic hot wax painting. Hart has won numerous awards with the exhibition of her Encaustic Mixed Media artwork including two awards at the Minnesota State Fair, a First Place award at the Maple Grove Art Center, and a Best of Show at the Paramount's Regional Juried Exhibition in St Cloud, MN.

Hart is a 2021 recipient of the Central Minnesota Arts Board Individual Artist Award and the Minnesota State Arts Board Creative Support for Individuals Grant and has also received a Career Development Grant from the CMAB. Her work has been accepted for solo exhibitions for the 2021/2022 season at The Phipps Gallery in Hudson, WI, The Confluence Gallery in Bloomington, MN and Silverwood Park Gallery in St Anthony, MN. Hart also exhibits her work at Art Fairs and Juried Group Exhibitions across the Midwest and beyond. Her schedule can be found on her website at

Hart uses symbolism from nature to convey the human condition with hope. “As a survivor of addiction and abuse, I have developed a daily practice of mental health awareness and healing that includes quiet, contemplative time in the natural world". Hart creates her visual stories using surrealist drawings and etchings which are combined with other materials and embedded within hot wax to depict a convergence of time and memory. Hart's work brings one into a space where healing and magic are found. "I portray the potential for self-healing and transformation in opposition to the stigmas attached to mental health.” Hart’s work is a must see.
