Rayshele Kamke

Rayshele Kamke is an emerging artist and Metro State student based in Hudson, Wisconsin where she lives with her husband, two teenage boys and two dogs. She started drawing in 2020 when she took a class at Metro State during the pandemic in order to have a creative outlet while being quarantined at home. Creating art, mostly charcoal drawings, has allowed Rayshele to focus energy on learning her native culture, connecting with new family members, and embracing all parts of her heritage. Some of Rayshele’s artwork has been displayed in Solidarity Street Gallery, as well as at Metro State University as a 2021 Art Purchase Award recipient. Rayshele has also displayed in the exhibit titled, “Noojimo” (She Heals) at All My Relations Gallery and “We Are Still Here” at Friedli Gallery in St. Paul. She is excited about the journey she is on to learn more about herself, her culture, and more, through art. Rayshele’s biggest inspiration has been getting to meet new native siblings for the first time and other family in 2020, especially her sister, Nedahness Greene, who is a talented and gifted photographer. Many of Rayshele’s early drawings were from Nedahness Greene’s beautiful photos, some of which are family members.
