I am an IT geek who turns to photography to bring balance to my otherwise analytical, logical world. For me, the hours from just before sunset through the night to just after sunrise are a fascinating time - a time where our senses are both dulled and heightened at once, a time for awe and wonder, a time for reflection. The camera's ability to compress multiple seconds' worth of light into a single instant, revealing more than is seen to the naked eye, heightens that sense of wonder.

Living in the Twin Cities metro, I don't always get the chance to see the full wonders of the night sky. While I cherish my opportunities to go up north to see things like the Milky Way and the Northern Lights (both favorite subjects of mine), I find that the bright lights of the city, rather than diminishing the experience, change it. They bring new challenges and convey new emotions.

Even with my bias towards the analytic, the arts have been a part of my life since a young age. I started in performing arts, loving the thrill of performing, of making something together with an ensemble of cast and crew. I performed in over 20 shows, eventually being inducted into the Delta Xi cast of Alpha Psi Omega (the national theatrical honor society). After school, my focus shifted away from the performing arts and for a period of time, making art was absent from my life. Then, in 2015, I took a workshop on Night Sky photography, offered by Bryan Hansel in Grand Marais, MN. That reawakened my need for art in my life and provided the tools to explore night photography. Now I am more balanced, more truly aware of myself.

My work is found in my studio/gallery (The Studios at Chautauqua Lane, #155 in the Northrup King Building in NE Minneapolis); in the corporate headquarters of C2 Solutions in Bloomington, MN; in private collections across the US and Canada; in Taikyu High School in Yausa, Japan; and online at I still get a sense of awe and wonder as I look up at the sky, or reflect on these photos, and I hope that you do as well. Thank you for looking at my work.
