Kathy Fox Weinberg is a U.S.-based painter working in oil on panel. Her practice explores the tension between structure and release — between arrangement and surrender. Drawing from natural forms and seasonal transitions, she builds tactile surfaces through layered brush and palette knife, allowing paint to resist containment. A former finance professional, Weinberg brings compositional rigor to expressive mark-making, creating work that inhabits the space between abstraction and lived observation. She signs her work KFox. My work explores the tension between control and surrender. Early in my practice, I was preoccupied with mastering technique — the mechanics of paint and composition. Over time, that inquiry shifted. I became less interested in controlling an image and more engaged in responding to it. Working primarily in oil on panel, I build surfaces that hold evidence of their making. Brush and palette knife marks remain visible, allowing paint to assert its physical presence. Natural forms and seasonal transitions often serve as points of departure — not for description, but for investigation: how light disrupts structure, how abundance resists containment, how impermanence shapes perception. I think of myself as both arranger and witness. Painting becomes a dialogue between intention and release. What remains is not a perfect rendering, but a record of attention. |
