Laura Hanson
Laura Hanson is a mixed-media painter whose work blurs the line between personal narrative and historical record.
Painting is her visual journal—an unfiltered archive of resilience, upheaval, and transformation. Influenced by Impressionism and the grit of Ashcan realism, her work layers bold brushstrokes, unconventional textures, and raw emotion to capture the pulse of contemporary life. Prolific and deeply engaged with the world around her, Laura’s paintings serve as a form of documentation, bearing witness to crisis, protest, and personal reinvention.
Her work has been exhibited across Minnesota, New York, and Missouri, including the Minnesota State Fair. Most recently, she presented a solo exhibition, Forced Witness, at Rumriver Art Center, showcasing a body of work that reflects on the last several years of collective and personal history. As her practice evolves, she continues to explore the weight of change and the emotional landscapes that define both personal and collective histories.
Warning is a spiritual successor to Forced Witness, continuing my exploration of resilience, upheaval, and the power of observation. While the themes remain urgent, this body of work marks a deliberate shift—an opportunity to step into a new era, refining my skills while engaging more deeply with the art community over difficult and often uncomfortable truths. This series moves beyond documentation into something sharper, more intentional. It examines political fanaticism, the erosion of critical thinking, and the forces shaping our collective future.
Unlike Forced Witness, where raw immediacy was central, Warning is calculated. The work questions, provokes, and challenges, offering not just a reflection of our times but a cautionary signal of what’s to come. Though some visual language carries over, Warning is not a repeat—there will be little crossover of paintings. This is a new chapter, a continuation in spirit rather than content. It is a space for evolution, for pushing artistic boundaries, and for deepening conversations around the intersections of art, power, and survival.
