Steve Olson

A Minnesota native, Steve Olson has been a practicing artist for over 30 years, most recently working in the area of social justice: homelessness, hunger, poverty, illness, and loss. His medium is burned and carved wood, with formal geometry of the human form carved into wood and enhanced with paint and fire, an ancient symbol of transformation.

The son of a social worker, he believes that those who suffer are closest to God’s heart. When we see the world through their eyes, we see what matters in life, and we can choose to live and love intensely and grow closer to one another and to the divine.

Olson received his bachelor’s degree in Studio Art from the University of Minnesota. He has exhibited his work throughout the Twin Cities, and is represented in a number of corporate and private collections in the area. He is especially proud of the works represented in the collections of the Family Housing Fund, the Jeremiah Project, the Domestic Abuse Project, and when it is used to raise awareness, protect the underserved, create dialogue, and remove stigma.
