Series: Little Girls in Pretty Boxes: Acrylic on Wood or Canvas. I am an emerging artist. My love for art started at a very young age, yet I didn’t pick up my first brush till I was 37. In fact, my last formal art “training” was my 4th grade Art class. Why you ask? In 5th grade I made the heartbreaking decision to moved away from my parents and 5 siblings to become an Olympic trained figure skater training in both Colorado Springs and Boston. We studied art pieces, classical music, ballet, movement all with the goal of telling a story on ice in four-minute programs.
Take a moment to feel yours and be proud of YOU for all the trials and tribulations you have overcome throughout your life.
Artist's Statement by Emily Quandahl
“My work visualizes the concept of learning through practice. Years spent studying the viola translated to layers of paint, learning how to interpret my creativity and emotions that a failed music career couldn’t do. Every studio session is a chance to throw away preconceived notions of what my work should be as I constantly learn and evolve. There are layers of imperfection and experience below what makes it to the gallery walls, and that is where I find my inspiration. The unknown of what it can be, and the reassurance that one layer can tie it all together.”
