Sarah VanValkenburg- I have been in music all my life but I think the song writing started when my kids were much smaller than they are now, I used to make up little songs and verses to keep them entertained. I enjoyed rhyming and watching their faces light up at the silliness! I decided to start guitar lessons and after a few lessons my guitar teacher encouraged me to try writing my own songs, and suggested I play a show or two. I told him I couldn’t possibly do that - to which he responded, “Why not?” I didn’t have a good reason, so I picked up my pen, paper, and guitar and began writing my story in song. My first CD is titled "WHY NOT?"

My favorite part about playing shows is watching people’s reactions to my music. If I can make someone happy through a song, then I’ve done my job. I think music can create a space for camaraderie and togetherness, so when a listener comes up after a show and tells me they can relate to something I wrote about - it makes my night.

As far as my inspiration I think I have a ‘what’ rather than a ‘who. Music has always been a very important part of my life. I grew up in a house with music. My dad was a singer in my grandpa’s band. So I grew up hearing Peggy Lee, John Coltrane and Peter Paul and Mary. When I hear a certain song, memories of the sights, sounds, smells and people I knew flood back to me. Important in the soundtrack of my life would be music from John Mellencamp, Indigo Girls, Emmylou Harris, Cheap Trick, Bob Dylan, Tom Petty, Ray Wylie Hubbard and Elizabeth Cook . If there is one artist who has remained consistent throughout my ‘soundtrack’ it would be Bruce Springsteen. His music speaks to me about family, love , struggle and the human condition.

I have put out 2 albums "Why Not " and "Guitar Picks And Bottle Caps"

My current city is Hudson WI and I spend the winter in Austin Texas

Singer/songwriter Andrew Spreck digs deep into classic rock, folk rock, classic country…anything with soul and passion to deliver an inspiring blend of original material and cover songs.

Andrew “keeps music live” by averaging 40 live shows a year—frequently accompanied by a percussionist—with 30+ original songs rotating throughout his performances and more songs than he can play in one sitting, Andrew’s set list changes with every show.

Spreck is in his 28th year as a performing musician. In 2011 he transitioned from lead guitarist/lead vocalist playing in rock & blues cover bands to blossom into an outstanding solo acoustic artist.

Andrew is also a strong advocate of original music as producer of  the “Songwriters in the Round” series at the Hallberg Center for the Arts in Wyoming, MN.

In this electronic age of limitless personal jukeboxes, Andrew’s music is down-home, celebrating a simpler time when music was honest, earthy and came from the heart and soul.
